I've probably seen a million red moons and of course I've seen the moon everyday for the past 21 years.... Nevertheless, when I see the moon again, I fail not to be mesmerised by its beauty.
Last tuesday, a day before CS3240 Midterm exam, I saw a half red moon rising just above Raffles Hall's Block 5 Roof. It looked as if the moon was half asleep, with his eye lids closed.. and he simply didn't seem to want to rise up - and wake up ! Just the simple beauty of this sight made me experience a genuine happiness with no apparent rationale or reason - something that I haven't felt in many many months. The experience brought a smile to my face and the though that as long as life has such simple pleasures, I am always going to be happy, wherever I am, whatever I am pursuing !

Hail the Queen !
I am referring to none other than Venus herself !
Heading from buona vista mrt station towards the bus stop nearby, I spotted Venus glowing radiantly in the west sky in backdrop of blueish hues, right in the middle of a "storm" of sparse black clouds... all behind a couple of sky scrapers in construction. It seemed to me that Venus was in the limelight for a reason the ancient skies ecstatic about !
It was as if Venus was gloating about something that did not make sense to me then...Googling now revealed that the proud lady is occulting both Jupiter and Saturn this thursday - the first since 0401BC !! Awesome ...ain't it ? :D

Where the heart lies ...
When I took up Computer Engineering rather than pursuing my dreams of the space, the sky, the universe, I thought my dream would be a bygone history. But I don't think it will ever become buried or become history to me. Rather it is what seems to drive me many a day when I don't feel like working, makes what I've been desperately been trying to achieve through other means possible eventually. If I try to wake up early morning for the sake of working or studying I never do get out of bed... but if I decide to wake up to have a peek at the sky, I wake up even before the alarm rings and I seem to be so happy and cheerful the whole day !! Yesterday the same phenomenon recurred... As I looked at the applications for the SURF programmes yesterday and realised that they all involved astrophysics, I was totally going gaga. I experienced an interest, an excitation, a happiness that I know I haven't shown in anything for a long time.
When I look the orion, I feel a sense of belonging. I am able to recognise the stars and planets just by looking at them, their shimmering, their magnitude and position in the sky, even without looking at their neighbours... Recognising humans seems like a more difficult task. I do not understand this strange connection with the sky, the space and the universe... But I feel, as I look at the cloudy white sky raining drops of water that a life connected to them will provide me with a peace and happiness. I feel my destiny is somehow ties to them... Why else would they and they alone be able to kindle and conjure up expressions in me that is equable to none ?

Spherical Rainbow spinning ?
Today early morning as I went to bed at 3.30 am, something that was rapidly changing colours caught my eye. It was a star - The Rigel ! I have been seeing it for the past I don't know how many years...but never have I noticed it to be a magnificent binary - the fact that it was binary was so very evident ! It shimmered shades of red, ornage, white and kept changing colours - as if it were a spherical rainbow spinning at top speed and my eye was able to catch only a couple of hues of the rainbow.
To my surprise, I then noticed that the rest of the stars in the eastern sky were shimmering too...as if they were happily dancing to the tune of the magical music of the August sky ! Wonder why the stars never seemed to twinkle as much as they did today ... Maybe today marks the beginning of a life full of peace, happiness, contentment and success :)
This seems so much in tune with the NASA image of the day titled "Lighting up the night" - The launch of space shuttle Discovery. I also learnt that it was on my birthday last year that Chandrayan I was launched ...pity that the poor thing is left floating abandoned now in space.

On the MRT platform ...
Last Monday, as I was coming back from the NDP Appreciation Dinner at Jurong Camp 1, Boon Lay, I spotted a red moon (almost a crescent), just above a bunch of tall HDB apartments. It felt like a picture out of a kids' story book...a big moon atop a tall building, with a dark blue background for the sky :) It felt like a symbolic message- "Everything's great! The future is yours to decide !" - A truth that we as kids readily accepted and fantasized about.
The sunrise on Monday morning was quite unique too. A thin streak of florescent orange-red in a light purple sky !
